Brunch at Sweetwater Tavern in Chicago

On a recent trip to Chicago, I was looking for a place for brunch and came across Sweetwater Tavern on Yelp.

Having just gotten back from New Orleans a day before and not making it to Cafe Du Monde, the beignets on their menu totally caught my eye. It was almost 2 p.m. and I was tired from an early flight, starving because the food at Newark airport was terrible (more on that later) and I was in need of some serious caffeine, I decided to go with the protein and order their breakfast sandwich instead.

Glad I did.

This was an incredible meal. I substituted the sausage patty it comes with for crispy bacon, but left everything else as is. The eggs were cooked perfect with just the right amount of cheese and the green onion and aged cheddar biscuit was a perfect compliment. Many times you can’t taste the herbs in the biscuit, but this one, you could.

Let’s talk about the potatoes. I almost didn’t get them, because I was having so many things that were on  my food allergy list that I didn’t want to add to it, but these were phenomenal. Sliced super thin, some were crispy and others were a little soft. It was a perfect combination.
Seriously one of the best brunches I’ve had in a long time.
